Delhi HC: Amitabh Bachchan’s face, voice, and name can’t be used without permission

Amitabh Bachchan is one of the most loved actors in Bollywood. He has featured in various big bollywood films. The actor has filed a suit in the Delhi high court against the world at large, seeking protection of his name, image, voice, and personality attributes. Amitabh Bachchan's name, image, or voice can't be used without his permission, the Delhi High Court ruled today as it heard the actor's petition. The court also directed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and telecom service providers, to remove flagged content.

Justice Navin Chawla on Friday said, "The plaintiff is likely to suffer irreparable loss and harm. Some of the activities may even bring his disrepute. In view of the above, an ex parte ad interim order is passed, ".

It further added, "It cannot seriously be disputed that the plaintiff (Bachchan) is a well-known personality and is also represented in various advertisements. The plaintiff is aggrieved by the defendants using his celebrity status to promote their own goods and services without his permission or authorisation. Having considered the plaint, I am of the opinion that a prima facie case is made out and the balance of convenience also lies in his favour.

Amitabh Bachchan advocate Harish Salve urged , "I am just giving a flavour of what is going on. Someone is making t-shirts and started putting his face on them. Someone is selling his poster. Someone has gone and registered a domain name, This is why we have come."

Amitabh Bachchan is considered as the greatest hero of Hindi Cinema. His most notable films included the crime drama Agneepath (1990); Black (2005), the drama Paa (2009); the comedy Piku (2015), and the crime movie Badla (2019). After a brief stint in politics in the mid-1980s, Bachchan gained a new generation of fans in 2000–06 as host of the television game show Kaun Banega crorepati.
