NEW DELHI:  On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court swore in nine newly appointed justices, bringing the total number of judges on the bench to 44.

Judges Tara Vitasta Ganju, Mini Pushkarna, Vikas Mahajan, Tushar Rao Gedela, Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, Sachin Datta, Amit Mahajan, Gaurang Kanth, and Saurabh Banerjee were sworn in by Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi. The nomination of nine advocates as judges to the Delhi High Court was approved by the Centre last week.

In a tweet, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said: "The following lawyers have been appointed as judges of the Delhi High Court in exercise of the power provided by the Indian Constitution. All of them have my best wishes." The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice N.V. Ramana, recommended seven advocates to the Delhi High Court as judges earlier this month.

"The Supreme Court Collegium approved the proposal for elevation of the following advocates as judges in the Delhi High Court in its meeting held on May 4, 2022: Vikas Mahajan, Tushar Rao Gedela, Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, Sachin Datta, Amit Mahajan, Gaurang Kanth, and Saurabh Banerjee," according to a statement posted on the top court's website.

The apex court collegium suggested Tara Vitasta Ganju and Mini Pushkarna in 2020, followed by reiteration.
