New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has granted bail to another accused Babuuddin in the case of anti-Hindu riots that broke out during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in Jahangirpuri area of ​​Delhi on April 16, 2022. Babuuddin was arrested on April 27, after which he was in custody. Hearing the matter, a Single Bench of Justice Yogesh Khanna granted bail to Babuuddin observing that no further investigation was required. The Court also noted that the charge sheet has already been filed for this accused. Along with this, another accused of the Jahangirpuri riots was also recently granted bail.

Explain that, in the Jahangirpuri riots case, a case was registered against Babuuddin under sections 147, 148, 149, 186, 353, 332, 323, 427, 436, 307, 120B of the IPC and section 27 of the Arms Act. In this case, it was said on behalf of the prosecution that the accused Babuuddin was instigating the riots. He was also identified in two CCTV footages. To this, the court said that the CCTV footage shows that Babuuddin was only standing and he did not appear to be instigating the mob. The court also noted that "Police Officer (ASI) Joginder says that he was allegedly leading the mob. Although several dates have been taken by the administration to show some CCTV footage to prove it, but he has not been produced till now.''

The Delhi High Court has granted bail to Babuuddin on a personal bond of Rs 20,000. Earlier, the trial court had categorically refused to grant bail to Babuuddin. The trial court had observed that he was identified on the basis of CCTV footage on the day of the incident. Not only this, an eyewitness, the head constable also made an important statement regarding the role of Babuuddin in the riots. At the same time, Babuuddin had defended himself in this case, saying that neither his shop or house nor the camera which was produced by the prosecution came in the way where the riots broke out. Jahangirpuri riot accused Babuuddin had said in his bail plea that the accused was not related to co-accused Ansar. The prosecution has also not been able to produce any evidence to prove their connection.

Regarding this riot, the police had told in its charge sheet that the mob was already ambushed in front of the C block mosque to attack the procession being taken out on behalf of Hindus on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. After this, the same mob suddenly attacked the Hindus present in the procession with dangerous weapons. Glass bottles and even stones were thrown from the rooftops at the Hindus participating in the procession. After this, the Hindus present in the yatra also protested and the atmosphere gradually turned into riots. Eight policemen and a local resident were injured in the riots.
