Kochi: Two Indian boys living in the UK have drowned in a lake in Northern Ireland. Joseph Sebastian and Reuven Simon, originally from Kerala, were among a group of friends who had gone for a swim in the 'Engh Lough' lake in the city of Dari/Londonderry on a holiday on Monday, local police have said. Both were 16 years old. The Kerala Association paid tribute to the children in the city of Darry/Londonderry in Northern Ireland on Tuesday.

A spokesman for the association said: 'We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of two of our youths, Rouven Simon and Joseph Sebastian, in the accident at Engh Lough yesterday. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.'' The Northern Ireland Police Service (PSAI) issued a statement about the incident and confirmed that the bodies of the two youths had been recovered from the lake. Police officer Brogan told 'A child was taken out of the water and taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.' He said that after the rescue operation and extensive search by the police divers, the second child was found. He was declared brought dead on the spot, an investigation is going on in connection with this incident. For the time being, we believe that they died due to drowning.'

Local councillor Rachel Ferguson has also expressed her condolences over the incident. Councilor Ferguson tweeted, "My condolences go out to the family and friends of the two beautiful young boys who lost their lives yesterday at Annagh Lough." He has said that, 'The community is in shock and sad. Thank you to all the emergency services, which remained on the spot till late last night.'
