Delhi HC fined petitioner on seeking information of foreign vaccine manufacturers

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has rejected a petition filed by foreign vaccine manufacturers seeking information on applications for approval of the vaccine in India. The court also imposed a fine of 10,000 rupees on the petitioner. The Delhi High Court has slammed the petitioner saying that we will not hear the petition only to increase your knowledge.

The Delhi High Court observed that it has become a trend these days that anyone files a PIL under the writ jurisdiction of the idea that comes to his mind. The petition cannot be misconstrued in this way. The High Court said, 'there is also a provision of RTI where you can get this information. The petition was filed by Mayank Wadhwa seeking directions to the central government and others. The petition demanded that the Centre and other foreign vaccine manufacturers who have applied in India provide information.

The petition said, "The defendants were directed to change their import licensing and emergency approval process to make it equivalent to the approval granted to the Indian vaccine". There was also a demand to allow and direct foreign vaccines like Pfizer to be allowed and made available, which have proved effective in other countries and have been made available to Indian citizens.
