Judge Who Rejected P Chidambaram's Anticipatory Bail Retires

NEW DELHI: Judge Sunil Gaur who rejected anticipatory bail plea of Former Union Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram got retired.  He had rejected Chidambaram's  Chidambaram is involved in the INX media corruption case. Justice Gaur had also sought prosecution of senior party leaders including Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case.

Justice Gaur was promoted to the High Court in April 2018. He was named a permanent judge on April 11, 2012. During his tenure, he heard several other high-profile cases. He rejected the anticipatory bail of Congress leader and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath's nephew Ratul Puri on Monday in the Agusta Westland helicopter scam case.

Justice Gaur, the publisher of the National Herald, the congress mouthpiece, had issued a ruling last year in the Associated Journal saunders limited (AJL) case and asked him to vacate his ITO office here. The verdict was upheld by a division bench of the Delhi High Court but the Supreme Court stayed it in April this year. The matter is presently pending in the Supreme Court. Justice Gaud also heard some other issues related to corruption, including money laundering case against controversial meat exporter Moin Qureshi. Justice Gaud made a scathing remark while hearing Chidambaram's plea.
