INX Media case: Chidambaram will remain in Tihar Jail, High Court dismisses bail plea

New Delhi: Former Union Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram have received a major setback in the INX Media case. The Delhi High Court has dismissed P. Chidambaram's bail plea. P. Chidambaram will still have to stay in Tihar Jail. During a hearing in the Delhi High Court on Friday, Justice Suresh Kath said that if Chidambaram is granted bail at this stage, it will be difficult for the investigating agency to probe the shell company and the money trail, including 70 fraud bank accounts.

The court has argued that P. Chidambaram's bail plea is rejected in the public interest. The country has suffered financially due to this crime. It is noteworthy that two days earlier, the Delhi High Court had dismissed P Chidambaram's bail plea and extended his judicial custody till November 27.

For the first time in the INX Media case, P. Chidambaram was arrested from his house by the CBI on 21 August. After which he was put in Tihar Jail on 5 September. Since then P. Chidambaram is imprisoned in Tihar Jail. After hearing the arguments of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on 8 November, the court reserved its decision on 8 November.
