New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has asked the Kejriwal government to take a decision within six weeks on the promise of paying rent to poor tenants during the Corona epidemic. The Delhi High Court on Thursday said the promise of a CM to citizens is clearly "enforceable". At the same time, the court directed the AAP government to decide on CM Arvind Kejriwal's promise that if a poor tenant is unable to pay the rent during the Covid-19 epidemic, the government will pay it.

Justice Pratibha M Singh said in an order, "This court is of the opinion that the promise/assurance/representative given by the Chief Minister is clearly applicable, the implementation of which should be considered by the Government. It is important that the promises made by the government to the citizens are not broken without any valid and reasonable reasons." The court further said, "The assurance given by the Chief Minister has to be considered by the government and it has to be decided whether to implement it or not."

The court has ordered the Delhi government to take steps to formulate a policy to fulfil the promise made by the CM and give reasons for the CM's decision not to implement the proposal. The Delhi High Court has said that kejriwal's assurance that the government will pay the rent was not a political promise during the elections. The court further said, "This assurance is not a political promise. It was not said in the election rally. This is a statement made by the Chief Minister."
