New Delhi: Delhi Lt. Governor VK Saxena has given his approval for a higher revised pay scale for Assistant Public Prosecutors (APPs) working under the Directorate of Prosecution, GNCTD. The revised pay scale, effective from September 3, 2015, is set at Pay Band 3 with a Grade Pay of Rs 5,400. This decision comes after careful consideration of a proposal put forth by the Home Department, which underwent examination in consultation with the Finance Department, GNCTD. The approved revision encompasses all consequential benefits for the APPs.

The existing pay scale for APPs was in Pay Band 2 with a Grade Pay of Rs 4,800. The proposal to revise this pay scale gained momentum after a thorough examination by the Home Department and concurrence from the Finance Department, GNCTD. The decision to revise the Pay Scales for APPs was prompted by protracted litigation in the Delhi High Court, involving the Delhi government and others, along with corresponding discussions with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the LG Secretariat.

The Delhi High Court, through its order on September 3, 2015, directed the Delhi government to comply with the Union Cabinet Decision dated September 1, 2015, approving revisions of the pay structure for Prosecuting Officers of the Directorate of Prosecution. The LG Secretariat took up the matter with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, and subsequently, the Delhi Prosecutors Welfare Association (Regd.) filed a Contempt Petition No. 224/2016 before the High Court. The High Court, in its order dated May 31, 2016, directed compliance with its earlier order dated September 3, 2015.
