NEW DELHI: The Delhi Airquaolity quality management authorities today, June 8, issued revised guidelines for the usage of Diesel Generator (DG) sets and have warned that failing to comply with the revised guidelines in New Delhi and the NCR region would entail strict measures wherein ‘use of DG set shall not be permitted under any circumstances’.

The updated regulations were released by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), who stated that they would take effect on October 1st, 2023. The new development aims to further reduce Delhi's air pollution.

At a time when New York, in the United States, has surpassed Delhi as the most polluted city in the world, CAQM has released amended recommendations.

As per CAQM's updated guidelines, dual fuel kit and emission control device retrofitting should aim to be finished at the latest by 30 September 2023, when applicable. "Failing which, the use of the DG set shall not be permitted under any circumstances, anywhere in the entire NCR, even for periods not subject to GRAP restrictions," the Ministry noted.

Delhi, the nation's capital, has significant air pollution, which has become a cause for concern over time. The Delhi government implemented a number of regulations to reduce Delhi's air pollution after the panic.

The commission has ordered that the Revised Schedule for regulated operations of Diesel Generator (DG) sets, including during periods under GRAP, be adopted by all sectors in NCR, including industrial, commercial, residential, and office establishments, effective as of 1 October 2023.

The Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region (CAQM) and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) has directed for the adoption of the Revised Schedule for regulated operations of DG sets across all sectors in the NCR, including Industrial, Commercial, Residential, and Office Establishments, in order to comprehensively and effectively prevent, control, and abate air pollution caused by Diesel Generator (DG) sets.

The current directions on the regulated use of DG sets were thoroughly reviewed, which resulted in the publication of the following statement: "In view of the technical, commercial and practical aspects and the constraints involved in emission control from DG sets and considering the practical aspects of the implementation of Directions and a need to minimise pollution arising out of large-scale use of DG sets across the various sectors including industrial, commercial, institutional, and residential units/premises,

The Commission again requests that all parties, including vendors for all DG set capacities in the NCR, closely adhere to the Revised Schedule for regulated DG set operations in all NCR sectors. The Ministry added that NCR State Pollution Control Boards (PCBs)/DPCC must use appropriate consent mechanisms and routine inspections to ensure adherence to the aforementioned directives.
