New Delhi: Delhi Police had arrested two car thieves last Sunday (July 4, 2021). They were identified as Shaukat Ahmed Malla, 25, and Mohammad Zubair, 22. Among them, Shaukat turned out to be a resident of Baramulla in Kashmir while Zubair addressed from Shamli in UP. A 'terrorist' angle has been found in the case in the custody and interrogation by the police. Police investigations have raised suspicions that the two thieves may have terrorist links.

According to media reports, police have recovered pictures of drones and pictures of several terrorists from their phones. Both of them also have videos of bomb blasts and murders on their phones. A senior police officer said, "Shaukat Ahmed, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir, has visited Delhi six times since June. Pictures of surveillance drones have been recovered from his phone which is also used for photography. Photos and videos of terrorists and terror attacks have also been found. IB is checking the details of the terrorists seen in these green jackets which are clearly visible in the video.'' At the same time, police have found some burn marks on Shaukat's hand and a photograph of a policeman killed by a terrorist was recovered in the phone. Shaukat says his hand was burnt while cooking while the pictures that were found were forwarded on WhatsApp.

The items recovered from the accused have raised the suspicion of the police against them. Police suspect that they may have been intended to carry out a terrorist act before Independence Day. Senior police officials say, "Since data like the one from their mobile phones have been recovered during preliminary investigations. They are investigating the possible terrorist connection in the case. So, we have increased patrolling and surveillance in the capital region and all districts have been alerted ahead of Independence Day.''
