New Delhi: Delhi Finance Minister Atishi launched a strong critique of the Union Budget 2024-25, accusing the central government of neglecting the people of Delhi. "Two days ago, the BJP-led central government presented the Union Budget. The Delhi government has raised concerns about the injustice being done to the people of Delhi," Atishi stated.
She pointed out that despite Delhi residents contributing Rs 2.60 lakh crore in taxes, the central government has not allocated sufficient funds for the city's welfare. "The people of Delhi paid Rs 2.60 lakh crore in taxes and expected at least five percent of this from the budget. However, what they received was disappointing," Atishi emphasized.
Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj also voiced dissatisfaction, noting that while taxes are collected nationwide, funds have primarily been allocated to Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. "The people of Delhi, who gave all seven seats to the BJP, have been ignored by the BJP. The states that provided the most seats to the BJP received nothing, but Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, which the central government relies on, were given special packages. This is unfair. Tax is being collected from the entire country, but expenditure is focused on just two states," Bharadwaj remarked.
In response to the ongoing opposition protests accusing the budget of being discriminatory, the BJP plans to hold nationwide programs to inform the public about the features and benefits of the Union Budget 2024-25. These events will take place on Saturday and Sunday, with Union Ministers and national office bearers visiting key locations to discuss the budget in detail. Members of Parliament will visit every district, and budget-related programs will be organized at the district level across the country.
