New Delhi: Tahir Hussain, an accused in the Delhi riots and suspended AAP councilor, has applied for surrender. According to news agency ANI, Tahir Hussain, through his lawyer Mukesh Kalia, has submitted his surrender before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vishal Pahuja in Delhi's Rouse Avenue court on Thursday.
Tahir Hussain is a councilor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), but the party has suspended him after his name in the riots. So far 47 people have been confirmed dead in the violence that erupted between 24 February and 26 February in the north-eastern district of Delhi. The police have registered a case of killing of IB officer Ankit Sharma on Tahir Hussain. Ankit Sharma's body was recovered from a drain near the house of Tahir Hussain on 26 February. There was no information regarding where Tahir Hussain is since the case was registered.
However, Tahir Hussain has been calling himself innocent. They say that they themselves have been victims of violence in North-East Delhi. In a conversation with the media, he told that he was trying to stop the riot. According to him, the rioters had surrounded his house and he had called the police several times for help.
