New Delhi: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal will launch the national capital's first 'smog tower' at Connaught Place on August 23. Environment Minister Gopal Rai informed in this regard on Thursday. The Minister told the press that the tower, which is more than 20 metres high, will work to improve the air quality within a radius of one kilometre around it and start working with full capacity after the monsoon.

Gopal Rai said, "CM Arvind Kejriwal will inaugurate the smog tower on August 23. Experts will then assess its impact on pollution. Based on the results, we will decide on installing more such equipment. Rai had earlier said that the construction of the smog tower was delayed due to the global epidemic coronavirus. State that the Delhi Council of Ministers had approved the pilot project in October last year.

According to Rai, the smog tower will purify 1,000 cubic metres of air per second. An official said the impact of the smog tower will be studied for two years after its operation begins. Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) officials said that another 25-metre high tower constructed by the Central Government will start functioning at Anand Vihar by August 31.
