NEW DELHI: The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is set to be finished by October 2025, with 82% (1,136 km) of its total 1,386 km length already completed, according to Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways. He provided this update in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

As of June this year, a significant portion of the construction has been completed. The project, divided into 53 packages, includes 26 packages that are now finished. Gadkari confirmed that the revised completion date for the expressway is October 2025.

The expressway will enhance connectivity between key economic centers across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. According to the detailed project report (DPR), the expressway will reduce the distance between Delhi and Mumbai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) by about 180 km and cut travel time by up to 50%.

This reduction in travel time is expected to bolster the regional economy by facilitating faster transport of goods, thereby boosting industrial growth and exports. The expressway is also anticipated to spur the development of tier-2 and tier-3 cities along its route, potentially transforming them into smart cities and attracting investors.

Experts predict that the region surrounding the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will attract significant investment opportunities, including the development of business clusters, residential properties, retail outlets, malls, hospitals, and educational institutions.

Additionally, the expressway will pass through several tourist attractions, such as Ranthambore, Keoladeo, and Sariska national parks, as well as historic cities like Ajmer and Jaipur. This presents a growth opportunity for the hospitality and tourism sectors, supported by the real estate industry.
