Storm wreaks havoc in Meghalaya's Khasi Jaintia Hills, leaving hundreds homeless - The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma, pledges swift relief efforts as over 400 individuals bear the brunt of the disaster.

A senior official from disaster management revealed that at least 427 people have been impacted by the storm, which ravaged through 13 villages in the Khasi Jaintia Hills region on Sunday, causing severe damage to homes.

Conrad K Sangma assured that the district administration is mobilizing resources urgently to aid those affected.

"Strong winds and relentless rainfall have battered several parts of the state, resulting in extensive property damage. Immediate relief measures are underway," shared the CM on social media platform X.

The Home Department has instructed district deputy commissioners to remain vigilant and extend assistance as needed. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in the area for the next 48 hours, exacerbating the plight of those already affected.

Local authorities are coordinating with relief agencies to ensure that essential supplies reach the affected communities promptly. Temporary shelters are being set up to accommodate families displaced by the storm, providing them with a safe haven amidst the chaos. Additionally, medical teams are on standby to offer medical assistance to those injured during the calamity. The collective effort aims to alleviate the suffering of the residents and restore normalcy to the affected areas as swiftly as possible.
