Rameshwaram:  Devotees flocked to Rameswaram on Sunday to visit the Ramanathaswamy Temple ahead of Krishna Janmashtami. The town witnessed a surge in tourists and pilgrims over the weekend, drawn by both the religious significance and the holiday.

Pilgrims bathed in the holy Agni Tirtha beach and performed traditional rituals including Darpanam, Pindam, and Bidurkarma Puja. They stood in long queues to take a dip in the 22 sacred theerthas of the Ramanathaswamy Temple before having darshan of Swami.

Preparations for Krishna Janmashtami, celebrated on August 26 this year, are underway across the country. In Uttar Pradesh, Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh announced plans for grand celebrations to honor Lord Krishna's significance.

In Mathura, extensive preparations are being made to ensure a smooth and secure celebration. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shailesh Pandey stated that comprehensive security arrangements are in place at key locations, including Shri Krishna Janmasthan temple and Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan. The SSP noted that the celebration area at Shri Krishna Janmasthan has been divided into three zones and seventeen sectors for better management, with a continuous flow of devotees expected.

Both Mathura and Vrindavan, where Krishna is believed to have spent his youth, are gearing up for particularly grand celebrations. Devotees traditionally fast, decorate temples and homes with flowers, diyas, and lights to mark the occasion.
