Dehradun: Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has finally taken a decision on the Uniform Civil Code in the cabinet. The proposal was unanimously approved in the first meeting of the state cabinet on Thursday itself. Now a committee of experts will be formed to implement this, which will also include retired judges of the Supreme Court. Uttarakhand will be the first state in the country to do so.
After the first meeting of the cabinet, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, "On February 12, 2022, our government had taken a resolution that Uniform Civil Code will be brought in the state. Giving the reason for this, Dhami said that protecting the borders of Uttarakhand is important for the whole of India to protect the cultural and spiritual heritage of Uttarakhand, to protect the environment and to protect the nation, hence the need for a law like Uniform Civil Code.
Chief Minister Dhami said, for Uniform Civil Code, we will form a high level committee, which will include retired judges of the Supreme Court and this committee will prepare a draft of this law and submit it to the government, which will be implemented at the earliest. A resolution in this regard has been passed unanimously in the cabinet today. Uttarakhand will be the first state in the country where this law will be applicable. The scope of this Uniform Civil Code will be uniform laws on matters like marriage, divorce, property and succession for all people irrespective of religion they believe in.
