Guwahati : Dharia Konwar, former general secretary and leader of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), will be the party's candidate from Thaura constituency, Raijor Dal President and MLA Akhil Gogoi announced in a press briefing on Thursday.

Gogoi said that "Konwar is a staunch ethnic activist, who was arrested in 2019 during the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. He was kept behind bars for seven months along with me." The Raijor Dal president claimed that he was a non-compromising worker. Terming Sushant Borgohain a betrayer, Gogoi said, "We supported him in the last elections because we wanted to oppose the BJP. He won but joined the ruling party for his own benefit. The coronavirus pandemic has hit the country's economy." He has been badly affected. Many people have suffered. But he joined the ruling party ignoring the plight of the people."

Akhil Gogoi raised questions on Sushant Borgohain and his contribution to the development of the Thaura region when he served as the parliamentary secretary of his home constituency in 2011. The dates for the upcoming by-elections to Thaura constituency are yet to be announced. In 2021, Sushant Borgohain of the Indian National Congress won the seat by defeating Kushal Dowari of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
