Originally a resident of Uttar Pradesh, The father of Dheeraj Srivastava has been an eminent academician of Allahabad. Patience Srivastava had to come to Jaipur for higher studies after his father's untimely death. Here he did a post-graduation in Political Science from the University of Rajasthan and won a gold medal in M.Phil. He was then selected in the 1994 batch to the Rajasthan Administrative Service. Here, in the border districts of Rajasthan like Jalore, Sirohi and Jodhpur, the then Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot appointed him as his Officer on Special Duty. He is considered to be very close to Gehlot.
