Diggi Raja backs out, ways clear for Gandhi family loyalist Kharge

New Delhi: Friday is the last day for filing nominations for the election of Congress national president. In such a situation, there will be a stir throughout the day today and it will be clear how many people are going to compete for the post of Congress President and who are its contenders. Meanwhile, there have been some major reversals, in which Ashok Gehlot, one of the loyal leaders of the Gandhi family, has been out of the race for the post of president, while Mallikarjun Kharge is still the frontrunner in the race.

At the same time, Digvijay Singh was also talking about claiming the post of Congress President earlier, but by noon he announced that he was not contesting the election. Perhaps, Digvijay Singh got instructions from the Congress's high command i.e. the Gandhi family. However, whatever it is, the removal of Diggi Raja has definitely cleared the way for Mallikarjun Kharge. Digvijay Singh refused to contest the elections and said, "I have worked for the Congress all my life and will continue to do so. My commitment is with the Nehru-Gandhi family.''

Let me tell you that, with Digvijay Singh contesting the election, Kharge's votes could have been cut and Shashi Tharoor could have benefited from it. But political pundits say that the Gandhi family would not want Tharoor to take over, because Tharoor is a member of the rebel Congress faction G-23, which has been demanding organizational changes in the party. In such a situation, the Gandhi family would like to give a command in the hands of a leader who can be instructed from behind the scenes and get work done, in such a situation Kharge can be the right choice.
