New Delhi: The country's largest government bank, the State Bank of India (SBI), is going to get a new chairman soon. The Bank Board Bureau (BBB) has nominated Dinesh Kumar Khara for the post of the next chairman of SBI. Khara will replace SBI's current chairman Rajnish Kumar, whose three-year term ends on October 7.

The recommendation of BBB will now be sent to the government. The final decision on this appointment will be made by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by PM Modi. It has been a tradition that the chairman of SBI is appointed from the managing directors at that time. The members of the BBB, selecting the top officials of public sector banks and economic institutions, have interviewed four managing directors of SBI. The BBB has said in its statement that, "On the basis of his performance and total experience, the Bureau recommends the name of Dinesh Kumar Khara for the post of SBI chairman." With this, C Srinivasulu Shetty will be in the list of reserved candidates for this post.

Dinesh Kumar Khara was also one of the contenders for the post of chairman in 2017. Khara was appointed as Managing Director of SBI for three years in August 2016. After reviewing his performance, he has been given a two-year extension in 2019.
