Sivasagar- Assam: The relentless floodwaters continue to wreak havoc in the Sivasagar district, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. Reports from officials on Wednesday indicate that an alarming number of approximately 18,000 individuals have fallen victim to the deluge.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has revealed that two revenue circles, namely Nazira and Sivasagar, encompassing 54 villages, have become submerged as the water levels of the Disang and Dikhou rivers surge perilously beyond their normal limits.

In response to the dire circumstances, the district administration has promptly established 11 relief camps and 5 relief distribution centers, providing refuge to over 1,100 affected individuals. These shelters serve as a sanctuary for those seeking solace amidst the unforgiving floodwaters.

One survivor, whose home has succumbed entirely to the floods, laments the loss of all her cherished belongings. "My once cozy abode now lies submerged, with all my household items irreparably damaged. Thankfully, the NDRF team came to our rescue. However, we are yet to receive any significant assistance from the government," she voiced with despair.

Relief efforts are underway, with the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) diligently engaged in rescue operations throughout the flood-ravaged areas. In the past 24 hours alone, their relentless endeavors have successfully saved and relocated 582 individuals to safer grounds.

A member of the NDRF shared insights into their arduous rescue mission, recounting the utilization of four boats in their valiant efforts. "Upon receiving the distress call, we swiftly ventured into the flood-affected region, wholeheartedly dedicating ourselves to the rescue operation," the NDRF personnel disclosed, emphasizing their commitment to alleviating the suffering caused by the calamity.

As the floodwaters continue to surge, Sivasagar finds itself grappling with an unprecedented crisis. The urgent need for immediate aid and resources becomes increasingly evident, as the affected populace faces the daunting task of rebuilding their lives from scratch amidst these trying times.
