Novak Djokovic, the world's number-one male tennis player, has resigned from the post of president of the ATP Players Council. According to media reports Djokovic has done this to create a new association so that the players can be strengthened further. However, they have not received support from Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer and both are still members of the council.

The Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) was formed on behalf of the meeting by the players on Saturday at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. 60 to 70 players took a picture on the court which was shared on social media by Canada's Vasek Pospisil, who is seen as the major reason behind the new association with Djokovic. He first thought of the players' union at the 2018 Australian Open. Since then, players were demanding more revenue, especially from the Grand Slam.

On Saturday, Djokovic said after winning the Western and Southern Open, I have read in the letter of ATP in which he wrote that this new union cannot live with ATP. I do not respect this news respectfully. He said, legally we are completely safe and we are also entitled to form a players' union. We are not talking about boycott, we are not even talking about parallel tour. This is an important step for players and sports. We only want our organization which is completely ours. We will definitely try to work with ATP.
