CHENNAI: Ahead of the city council elections, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK supremo MK Stalin announced that party members facing criminal charges will not be allowed to contest.
The DMK president asked cadre to strive for the DMK-led alliance's victory to achieve decent government in an open letter published on Sunday. Stalin stated that poll preparation consultations had already taken place with district secretaries, party MPs, and MLAs.
Stalin told party members that after ensuring seamless seat-sharing arrangements with partners, the selection of party candidates must be done scrupulously, similar to the army recruitment process. Stalin encouraged his partymen to expose the BJP and its ally, the AIADMK, for their allegedly communal activities, and to prevent non-secular forces from taking root in the state.
On February 19, voters will go to the polls for urban local body elections, and on February 22, they will vote and have their votes counted. Tamil Nadu is involved, with 21 corporations, 138 municipalities, and 490 town panchayats at stake.
