Kolkata: The West Bengal government is currently embroiled in a teacher recruitment scam, former ministers and MLAs of the government have been arrested in this case. The Calcutta High Court has also ordered cancellation of many appointments given after taking bribe. Even, the heat of this scam has reached Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of CM Mamata Banerjee. Meanwhile, there has been an uproar over a decision taken by the Mamta government regarding the appointment of doctors.

Actually, CM Banerjee has announced to make a doctor with a three-year diploma. However, now CM Mamta seems to be embroiled in controversies after her decision. Medical organizations and doctors organizations have raised serious questions on CM Mamta's decision. Doctors organizations have asked CM Mamata Banerjee why the number of doctors in the state is less. They have condemned such a proposal.

Let us tell you that even before this, the state's leftist government had decided to appoint doctors with diplomas in four years, but due to opposition from medical and doctors organizations, the government had to withdraw its decision. Talking to the media, Dr. Swapan Vishwas, Treasurer of Service Doctors Forum, has said that CM Banerjee's proposal to make 3-year diploma doctors like civic police, mercury teachers in the state is condemnable. He said that giving appointment in the field of doctor like any other field will have serious consequences.

He further said that there is no dearth of doctors with MBBS in our Bengal and the country. It is almost as per international standards. There is a shortage of doctors in the government sector and this is because of the policies of the government. The medical society will not accept the decision of appointing diploma doctors like civil police. At the same time, Manas Gumta, the leader of the Doctor's Association, strongly opposed the proposal of doctorate in this diploma. He said, 'What is the subject of Diploma Medicine? Is it approved by the Medical Council? We do not know this.'

Gumta further said that at present around 4500 doctors are passing out every year from both government and private medical colleges. MBBS i.e. specialist doctors are also seen protesting on the streets due to not getting jobs. In such a situation, if it is said that there is a shortage of doctors and therefore diploma doctors or half doctors are being brought, then it is natural to question the purpose of the government.
