NEW DELHI: On June 9, the Intercontinental Cup will begin at the Kalinga Stadium with a match between India and Mongolia.  On the first day of the tournament, Lebanon and Vanuatu—the other two participating teams—will also face off against one another.

The tournament is a part of India's training for the Qatar 2023 AFC Asian Cup. India will compete in the SAFF Championship 2023, which will take place in Bengaluru from June 21–July 3, 2023, right after the Intercontinental Cup. Starting the following week, May 15, 2023, the national team will be camping in Bhubaneswar under the direction of head coach Igor Stimac to get ready for the competition.

The Intercontinental Cup will be conducted for the third time; the first two events took place in Mumbai (2018) and Ahmedabad (2019). Before the top two teams square off in the final, which is scheduled to take place on June 18, 2023, all four teams will play each other once.

The men's national team of India had never faced Vanuatu or Mongolia before. The hosts have a history of six games against Lebanon. The two lower-ranked nations in the competition are Vanuatu and Mongolia, with Lebanon being the highest-ranked nation in the competition and being positioned just two spots above India in the FIFA rankings.
