Kolkata: Today is the second day of the Indian Medical Association's (IMA) countrywide strike. After the first day's strike, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee invited junior doctors to discuss at the state secretariat which she rejected. Junior doctors say Mamata Banerjee will have to come to NRS to discuss with her, she will not go.

The IMA has sought a law to investigate the violence against doctors in hospitals. The organization says that violators should be sentenced to a minimum of seven years in prison. In Bengal, 500 doctors have resigned so far, with 175 doctors of Kolkata's SSKM hospital collectively resigning.

Joint Forum spokesperson of Junior Doctors Dr. Arindam Dutta has put six conditions before Mamata Banerjee to call off the strike.

Mamata Banerjee should apologise without any condition on the statement made by doctors
A statement condemning the attack on doctors should be issued
There should be an inquiry into the inaction of the police in the case.
Action should be taken against those who attack doctors
False allegations levelled against junior doctors and medical students should be withdrawn
Armed policemen should be deployed in hospitals.
