New Delhi: In order to reduce crowding at check-in counters, Delhi International Airport will allow Domestic flyers carrying just handbags to skip 'express check-in' counters.
According to report, the Delhi International Airport will have first such facility ready at Terminal II by th next month, from where all domestic flights of GoAir and some of IndiGo and SpiceJet operate. Subsequently, terminals I and III will also start this facility soon.
A Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) official told TOI that thay have earmarked a dedicated space at the terminal entry point of the departure level. He further added, “This facility will enable domestic passengers to head straight to the boarding area without getting into the check-in area, enabling them to enter the security check-in lane after printing a boarding pass from ‘self-service kiosks’ at the departure forecourt outside the terminal building or through web check-in.”
He stated clearly that, this facility is only for checking in and passengers would still need to undergo a security check.
“Frequent flyers will immensely benefit from the express security check-in facility,” he further told the national publication. DIAL is expecting this system to help the airlines reduce check-in queues and improve on-time performance.
Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport is facing acute infrastructure crunch and this move is expected to reduce crowding at check-in counters of its choked terminals. Delhi witnesses 1.4 lakh domestic flyers and about 40 per cent of them do not travel with their check-in bags.
