New Delhi: The Supreme Court has made a scathing comment while hearing the petition of Sharjeel Imam, accused of Delhi riots and a former student of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). The Supreme Court said that courts should not hear bail applications for more than ten minutes. A bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice AS Oka said that the long hearing in bail matters for days was a waste of the court's time.

Justice Kaul said that I think it is a complete waste of time. When bail applications are heard at one go. As the appeal is being made on the basis of merits, then the bail petitions should not be heard for more than 10 minutes. Delhi riots accused Sharjeel Imam said in his petition that when he was not a party in Umar Khalid's case, any comment made by the court on him is not appropriate. Therefore, the remark made by the High Court while rejecting the bail application of Umar Khalid should be removed.

The Supreme Court made this comment during the hearing on the petition of Delhi riots accused Sharjeel Imam. The petition had moved the Supreme Court to set aside certain observations made against him by the Delhi High Court in its order denying bail to Umar Khalid, a co-accused in the Delhi riots conspiracy case.

What was the statement of Sharjeel Imam:-

Although the speech of Sharjeel Imam is very long, but here we are keeping that part in front of the readers, in which provocative and detrimental things have been said about the integrity of the country. In the anti-CAA program, Sharjeel had said that 'the time has come for us to tell non-Muslims that if they are our sympathizers, then they should come and stand on our terms. If they do not stand on our terms then they are not our sympathizers. If 5 lakh people are organized with us, then we can separate the Northeast from India permanently. If not permanently, then at least for a one-half month, Assam can be cut off from India. You can also watch its video on YouTube.
