Jaipur: Former PM and veteran Congress leader Manmohan Singh has been elected unopposed for the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. After completion of the election process on Sunday evening, Manmohan Singh was selected. One seat was vacated after the death of state BJP President Madan Lal Saini.

In a tweet, Rajasthan CM and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot congratulated former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his victory. Last Tuesday, Dr. Singh filed his nomination papers for the Rajasthan Rajya Sabha elections. Dr. Manmohan Singh along with Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Deepti CM Sachin Pilot were also present to file their nominations.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or any other political party had not fielded any candidates against him. Dr. Manmohan Singh is now a Rajya Sabha member and will continue his term till April 3, 2024. Earlier, he had served as Rajya Sabha member from Assam for three decades. His term ended on June 14. However, now in Assam, Dr. Singh had filed his nomination from Rajasthan due to non-incumbantiation of the Congress and no vacancy in the seat.
