New Delhi: India President Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan today, paid floral tributes to the first President of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad on his birth anniversary.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also paid tribute to Dr. Rajendra Prasad and noted that he had been instrumental in determining the course of the nation.

Taking to Twitter Vice President noted: "Remembering former President Dr. Rajendra Prasad on his birth anniversary. One of the chief architects of modern India, Dr Rajendra Prasad played a key role in shaping the destiny of our nation. He will always be remembered for his simplicity, integrity and compassion for all." 

On the occasion of the centenary of Dr. Rajendra Prasad's birth, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid a heartfelt homage to him on Twitter. He described him as a famous leader who embodied fearlessness and academic zeal. The Prime Minister said that Dr. Rajendra Prasad was deeply ingrained in Indian culture and had a bold plan for the development of the nation.

On Saturday, Rahul Gandhi, the head of the Congress, paid tribute to Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the country's first president. On the occasion of his birthday, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "Humble homage to the heroic independence fighter, renowned scholar, visionary leader, and the first President of India, Bharat Ratna Dr. Rajendra Prasad."

Rajendra Prasad, who was born in Bihar in 1884, served as India's first president from 1950 until 1962. He joined the Indian National Congress during the Independence Movement and had previously worked as a politician and attorney.
He was detained by British authorities during the Salt Satyagraha of 1931 and the Quit India campaign of 1942 despite being a fervent supporter of Mahatma Gandhi.
