Drew Barrymore, the well-known American actor and film producer, revealed some exciting news on a recent episode of 'The Drew Barrymore Show'. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Barrymore disclosed that her longtime friend and co-star, Adam Sandler, is currently working on a script for a sequel to the popular movie 'Happy Gilmore'.
The buzz about the potential sequel started when Christopher McDonald, who famously portrayed Shooter McGavin in the original film, mentioned in March that Sandler had shared a first draft of the sequel with him. Barrymore, eager to confirm the news, reached out to Sandler, sparking even more interest in the project.
In a preview of the latest episode of her show, Barrymore shared details of her conversation with Sandler, expressing her enthusiasm for the sequel. "I want it. I need it. I stayed up last night with my daughter watching Billy Madison," Barrymore exclaimed. "I sent Sandler a video of it. He sent me another video back and I'm waiting to see if he's confirming about the 'Happy Gilmore 2' script."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sandler responded to Barrymore's inquiry, affirming McDonald's earlier statement. "This just in, I have breaking news -- I'll just say this from my source, that it is 'in process.'"
During an appearance on 'The Ken Carman Show With Anthony Lima' podcast in March, McDonald shared his excitement about the sequel. "I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he says, 'McDonald, you're gonna love this,'" McDonald recounted. "I said, 'What?' He says, 'How about that,' and he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2. I don't wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, 'Well, that would be awesome.' So, it's in the works. Fans demand it, dammit!"
Sandler also chimed in during an interview on the Dan Patrick Show, revealing McDonald's eagerness to spill the beans. "McDonald texted me after the fact, 'By the way, that thing you told me not to talk about, I talked about.' I said, 'Oh, that's good news.'"
It seems that the sequel has been a topic of discussion among Sandler and his friends for some time. Sandler recounted a conversation with McDonald during the filming of a recent comedy special, where they discussed plans for 'Happy Gilmore 2'. "Dude, we've been talking about a Happy 2 and we're working on some stuff," Sandler recalled telling McDonald.
