Tel Aviv: In the early hours of Friday, a significant explosion shook Tel Aviv, Israel, which the Israel Defence Forces later confirmed was caused by a drone.

An ambulance service reported that a man was killed by shrapnel, and his body was found in a nearby building. The Times of Israel noted that eight people were taken to local hospitals, with four injured by shrapnel or the shockwave from the blast, while the other four were treated for anxiety.

The Israeli military's initial investigation revealed that an "aerial target," referring to a drone, caused the explosion in the coastal city. A military statement emphasized that the incident is under thorough investigation, as the drone entered Israeli airspace without triggering any sirens. To prevent future incidents, the air force plans to increase fighter jet patrols to protect Israeli skies.

Reports indicated that the explosion occurred dangerously close to the US Embassy. Despite the severity of the incident, no air raid sirens were activated in Tel Aviv before the blast.

Israeli police, including bomb disposal experts, quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation, report shows.

This explosion happened shortly after the Israeli military confirmed the killing of a senior commander of the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia in southern Lebanon. Additionally, three days prior, Israeli airstrikes killed over 60 Palestinians in southern and central Gaza. One strike hit a main street with market stalls in a designated "safe zone" for displaced people, while another targeted a United Nations-run school where families were seeking shelter.
