Amritsar: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia has approached a Mohali court after an FIR was registered in a drugs case. The SAD leader has moved the court on Thursday to seek interim bail. Majithia's lawyer D S Sobti on Monday filed an anticipatory bail plea on his behalf.

Earlier, an FIR on drugs was registered against former Punjab Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) veteran Bikram Singh Majithia. An FIR has been registered against Majithia in Mohali on Monday under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. This case has been registered against Majithia on the basis of an investigation of a drugs racket that surfaced in the state in the year 2018. Its report was filed by Anti-Drugs Special Task Chief Harpit Singh Sidhu in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2018.

Punjab Police had already asked the Union Home Ministry to make a lookout notice circular against SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia. Majithia is accused in a case registered under the NDPS Act. Majithia cannot leave the country after the lookout notice is issued. A senior Punjab Police official had requested the Ministry to continue the notice till the investigating agency withdraws its alert in this regard.
