NEW DELHI: An IndiGo passenger, 40, who was allegedly trying to open the emergency door flap while intoxicated has been arrested. According to a statement from the airline, it was reported that he was a passenger on an IndiGo trip between Delhi and Bangalore.
The incident took place on board flight 6E 308 from IGI Airport at about 7:56 am on Friday. The airline said that the passenger attempted to open the emergency exit flap while intoxicated.
"The personnel on board immediately informed the captain of this infraction, and the passenger received the proper warning. The safe functioning of the aforementioned flight was not compromised "The airlines went on to say.
Upon arrival in Bangalore, the passenger was then handed over to the CISF. Further investigation into the matter is goin on.
Indian airlines have recently struggled to control rowdy passenger behaviour. The number of these instances has increased during the past three months. Incidents of passenger disorderly behaviour have escalated, from occurrences involving peeing to smoking in restrooms. As per reports, a Swedish national recently molested a member of the IndiGo airline cabin crew, making it the fifth incidence to be documented between 2017 and 2023.
The "No Fly List" has been extended through March 15 for a total of 10 passengers this year, according to recent comments made by Minister of State for Civil Aviation V K Singh. In compliance with Civil Aviation Requirement on disruptive passengers, Singh stated that a total of 66 and 63 people were added to the "No Fly List" in 2021 and 2022, respectively. The aviation regulator DGCA has released a Document titled "Handling of unruly/ disruptive passengers" to address disruptive behaviour onboard aircraft. As per the Civil Aviation Requirement, airlines must adhere to a set process for holding passengers responsible before adding them to the "No Fly List."
