United States: Former US President Donald Trump's social media platform Truth Social has not yet been approved for distribution on Alphabet Inc's Google Play Store due to insufficient content moderation, according to a Google representative on Tuesday.

The delay is a blow to the app, which debuted in the Apple App Store on February 21. About 40% of smartphones sold in the US are Android-powered.

Most smartphone users wouldn't have an easy way to download Truth Social without the Google and Apple stores.

Google said in a statement that our Terms of Service are required to have an effective system for moderating user-generated content for any app to go live on Google Play.

"On August 19, we notified Truth Social of several violations of standard policies in their current app submissions," Google said.

Google claimed it had expressed concerns with Truth Social about a violation of Play Store rules that forbid content such as physical threats and incitement to violence.

In a press release, Truth Social, the parent company of Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), said it has "consistently worked in good faith with Google to ensure that the Truth Social Android app will be available without compromising our promise." Complies with Google's policies. Be a haven for free speech." Reuters did not receive a response from TMTG.

Unlike some of our competitors' apps, Truth Social has zero tolerance for explicit sexual content, which routinely violates Google's policies prohibiting the use of sexual content.
Axios was the first news source to report on the Android delay.

More than a year after the January 6, 2021 US Capitol riots suspended Twitter Inc., Facebook Inc. and Alphabet Inc. from YouTube based on allegations that they posted messages that encouraged violence, Truth Social took a stand more than a year after Trump. restored its social media presence.

TMTG has promised to provide an "engaging and censorship-free experience" on Truth Social in an effort to win over a base that believes its opinions on controversial issues such as the results of the 2020 presidential election differ from popular tech platforms. has been deleted.
