Due to medical negligence 2 infant dead, 30 others critical

Hyderabad: In an another case of medical negligence surfaced in Hyderabad as two infants passed away after being wrongly administered with an opioid. The medicine left three kids critical as well. Adding to the figures, thirty-two other kids were sent to the Niloufer Hospital for their treatment.

Tramadol was given to the infants after administering them with the pentavalent vaccine. The vaccine was given to the infants at the Urban Health Centre, Nampally. The parents gave their toddlers Tramadol after they developed a fever. Most of the toddlers were brought to the hospital in an unconscious state. The government has constituted an inquiry panel to probe the matter. The incident took place on Thursday.

While, the Superintendent of Niloufer Hospital, Dr Murali Krishna stated that instead of being given Paracetamol, the kids were given Tramadol. He added that the effects of the medicine last for around 48 hours. One of the infants, Shaikh Faizam was brought to the hospital for treatment where the doctors declared him dead. Since the parents did not want to send the body for an autopsy, they buried the deceased. The police will however, exhume the body for investigation.

However, another parent narrated his ordeal and said that his daughter had slept at 1 pm and after she did not get up till late night, she was brought to the hospital. The toddler stayed asleep till 11.30 pm the next day. To provide timely medical to the toddlers, an emergency ward was set up in the hospital.
