Kolkata: Gokulam Kerala beat Mohan Bagan to win the tournament for the first time in the Durand Cup. Gokulam Kerala beat 16-time champion Mohan Bagan with two goals from Trinidad forward Marcus Joseph. Kerala beat Mohan Bagan 2-1 to claim the title. In the final at Salt Lake Stadium, Joseph converted the penalty into a goal just before the timeout and then doubled the team's lead in the 51st minute.

Mohan Bagan's team, which averaged performance in the first half, improved their game in the second half. The advantage came in the 64th minute when Joseba Betia's free-kick was converted into a goal by Salva Chamoro on the header. The team continued to score a goal even after that but it did not succeed. A Kerala team has clinched the title of Asia's oldest tournament after 22 years.

Earlier, FC Kochi won the title. Earlier, Gokulam Kerala defeated East Bengal 3-2 in the semifinals to enter the final. This shattered East Bengal's hopes of winning its 17th title in its 100th year. In football, the Indian team has not been able to do much so far at the international level.
