On the 25th anniversary of her movie Dushman, Kajol reflected on it. She portrayed the twins Sonia and Naina Sehgal in the suspenseful film. The actor thanked the film's crew on Twitter for allowing her to feel at ease while facing a "uncomfortable topic" and referred to Dushman as "one of the scariest films" she has accepted to participate in. Sanjay Dutt and Ashutosh Rana were also featured in Dushman in addition to Kajol. 

The actor wrote, "#25years to Dushman. One of the scariest films I have ever said yes to or even watched for that matter. #AshutoshRana scared the crap out of me on screen and I’m sure out of all of you guys as well. And a big thanks till today to #PoojaBhatt and #TanujaChandra for making me so comfortable with such an uncomfortable topic. Pooja Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt produced Dushman. Tanuja Chandra made her directorial debut with this version of the Hollywood blockbuster Eye For An Eye. Kajol portrayed two sisters with opposing characteristics, Sonia and Naina. After the more outgoing sister Sonia is murdered by serial offender Gokul (Ashutosh), the more introverted Naina vows anger on him. In her journey, she asks for the assistance of a blind military veteran (Sanjay Dutt).

Kajol was nominated for the Best Actress Filmfare Award in the 44th edition in 1999, but ultimately took home the prize for her work in Karan Johar's feature film debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). Best Villain award was won by Ashutosh Rana. The last time the actor was seen in Revathy's Salaam Venky. Later this year, she will make her OTT debut with Disney Hotstar The Good Wife.
