CHENNAI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) is conducting new searches at 14 locations associated with former Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister and AIADMK leader P. Thangamani. The searches, which began on Monday morning, are being conducted in Erode, Salem, and Namakkal, all of which are associated with the former minister. The DVAC officers are conducting searches in one location in Salem, ten locations in Namakkal, and three locations in Erode.
Officials stated that the searches were being conducted in connection with a case involving the former minister's disproportionate assets. On December 15, the agency searched 69 locations associated with P. Thangamani. The DVAC had filed a case against former Minister P. Thangamani, his son T. Dharanidharan, and his daughter-in-law Shanthi for disproportionate assets.
The former minister amassed wealth to the tune of Rs 4.5 crore above his known sources of income between May 2016 and March 2020, according to the FIR filed by the agency. During this time, P. Thangamani was a minister.
Former AIADMK leaders and Chief Ministers Edappadi K. Palaniswami and O. Panneerselvam slammed the DVAC action against P. Thangamani, claiming that the raids were motivated by political vendetta.
