Chennai: Tamil Nadu has reported its first Omicron case, with a 47-year-old male passenger testing positive for this Coronavirus variant after arriving from Nigeria via Doha. The patient was taken to the hospital.

State Health Minister Ma. Subramanian stated late Wednesday that the findings of genome sequencing on the samples of six of his family members and a co-passenger are pending. The passenger's six family members have also demonstrated S-gene decrease, which could indicate that they, too, are infected with the Omicron virus.

All eight travellers were showing signs of illness. With the exception of a 16-year-old child, everyone has received two doses of Covid-19 vaccination. 42 people from other countries have tested positive for Covid-19 in the previous 10 days.
