Disproportionate assets case: Tamil Nadu DVAC raids 69 premises of ex-AIADMK minister P Thangamani

Chennai: The vigilance team raided the hideouts of veteran AIADMK leader and former minister P Thangamani in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. The 18-member team also raided his residence at around 6.45 am. According to reports, the vigilance action on P Thangamani has been taken to keep disproportionate assets.

A case was earlier registered by the Directorate of Vigilance and Prevention of Corruption against P Thangamani, T Shanti and son T Dharanidharan for possessing disproportionate assets. About 69 premises associated with the former minister are being raided in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. DVAC (DVAC) said in its FIR that P Thangamani has acquired assets worth over Rs 4.5 crore from known sources of his income between May 2016 and March 2020.

Thangamani and his family have been booked under Sections 13 (2), 13 (1) (B) and 13 (1) (e) Prevention of Corruption Act. His son Dharanidharan and wife Shanti have also been booked under Section 109 of the IPC. In fact, Thangmani served as minister of power, excise and prohibition during the previous AIADMK rule between May 2016 and May 2021. Raids have been conducted at 20 places in Namakkal, 14 in Chennai, and at Vellore, Salem, Karur, Coimbatore and Tirupur.
