The Maldives have traditionally been a close and significant maritime neighbour for India. Despite the inconveniences caused by the pandemic, the two countries' numerous relationships have grown stronger.

Together, India's "Neighborhood First" and the Maldives' "India First" policies address common issues and accomplish shared goals. President Solih emphasised the helpful role India has played in the nation's affairs over the past two years back in March.

In a speech to the nation, Solih commended the Indian government for helping his nation combat the COVID-19 outbreak by providing vaccines, among other things. Solih identified a number of cordial bilateral allies. The Maldives' COVID-19 reaction efforts were supported by New Delhi, he singled out, but this was only one instance.
