Earthquake tremors again in Jammu and Kashmir, magnitude 3.2 on Richter scale

Srinagar: Earthquake tremors were felt in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir this morning. Its intensity has been recorded as 3.2 on the Richter Scale. However, no loss of life or property has been reported so far. Officials of the National Center for Seismology have said that earthquake tremors occurred 15 km south-southwest of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir at around 5.43 am on Wednesday morning.

Let us inform that earlier on February 10, earthquake tremors had occurred in Jammu and Kashmir. Its intensity was recorded at 3.8 on the Richter scale. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) had said that the epicenter of the earthquake was 29 km below Kel, Gilgit-Baltistan. At the same time, earlier i.e. on February 5 also, there were strong tremors of earthquake in many areas of the valley including Jammu and Kashmir. Its intensity was 5.7 on the Richter scale.

Why do earthquakes happen?

Explain that the earth is made up of four layers namely inner core, outer core, mantle and crust core. The crust and upper mantle core are called lithosphere. This 50 km thick layer is divided into several sections. These are called tectonic plates. These tectonic plates keep moving in their places. When this plate starts moving a lot, it is called earthquake. These plates can move from their positions both horizontally and vertically.
