Two bomb blasts in East Jaintia Hills district in the past one month have Shaken the Meghalaya. State home minister Lakhmen Rymbui has refuted intelligence failure in preventing the blasts.

Rymbui told reporters in Shillong on Monday,  “It’s not an intelligence failure of the State Police." The state home minister said that the State police as well as the Central agencies are working to nab the criminal elements involved in the blasts. He further informed that they have so many leads, but they can not divulge anything until and unless we get a concrete proof we cannot divulge anything. The matter is under investigation, and it is not only investigated by state police but is also watched by several other organisations."

A man was injured in an explosion on Saturday in the factory of Star Cement at Lumshnong in East Jaiñtia Hills district. Proscribed militants outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has claimed responsibility for both the bomb blasts in the district.  HNLC had said that the blast was carried out as the cement plant has failed to “pay taxes” to them.
