New Delhi: Assembly elections are proposed in five states of the country including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab this year. In view of the corona infection, the Nirvacha Commission of India is preparing to tighten the Corona Guidelines. As per the new guidelines, the District Election Officer (DEO) will have strong accountability. Political parties are also set to ban campaigning in cases of violations. In Bihar, several shortcomings were noticed during the last phase of assembly elections.
DEO has powers to coordinate and supervise all electoral functions in its jurisdiction for all Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies. The Election Commission is firmly considering disciplinary action on DEO in case of any violation of election commission guidelines. The star campaigner is also being considered for restricting promotional and promotional days.
In a virtual meeting, the Election Commission has held discussions with representatives of political parties, Chief Secretary, DGP, State Police Nodal Officer and CEO. The Commission emphasized the need for 100 per cent immunization of all polling staff, social distancing at polling booths, proper cleanliness and safe elections.
