The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Friday confirmed that Ian Wattmore would be the next chairman of the board. 61-year-old Wattmore resigned as the non-executive director (self-charge) of the English Football League (EFL) in November 2018 citing health reasons. He was nominated to the post of chairman by the ECB in February this year and will now replace Colin Graves.
However, the ECB was forced to review its decision as there were reports in the English media that the EFL had started an independent investigation just a week before Wattmore quit, stating that the EFL had Clubs threatened to start the league and Whatmore was involved. However, when the case was later investigated, it was found that Whatmore had done nothing wrong. After the approval at the annual general meeting to be held later this month, Watmore will replace current chairman Graves. The ECB has also confirmed that Graves' tenure will end on 31 December.
Graves had agreed to extend the tenure till November this year as The Hundred Tournament was to be held, but now that the tournament has been postponed due to covid-19, then Graves decided to step down from his post on 31 August. Have done
