Kolkata: Enforcement Directorate (ED) attaches properties worth Rs 230.6 crore in West Bengal assistant teachers recruitment scam investigation. Properties, including land parcels and a flat, held by Prasanna Kumar Roy, Santi Prasad Sinha, and various companies and Limited Liabilities Partnerships (LLPs) controlled by them, have been attached by Kolkata's Zonal Office-II.

Prasanna Kumar Roy's properties comprise land parcels totaling approximately 96 Cottah in Patharghata, 117 Cottah in Sultanpur, 282 Cottah in Maheshtala, and 136 Cottah in New Town, Kolkata. Santi Prasad Sinha's attached properties include a benami flat in Bengal Ambuja Housing, Purba Jadavpur, Kolkata, and two land parcels in Kapashati.

The money laundering investigation was initiated by ED based on two FIRs registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act. The allegations include illegal appointment of Assistant Teachers in Class IX-X and Class XI-XII, favoring undeserving candidates, and flouting relevant rules.

CBI chargesheets revealed the illegal appointment of 2,081 candidates for Assistant Teachers' posts, leading to a criminal conspiracy. Prasanna Kumar Roy and Santi Prasad Sinha, key figures in the scam, have been arrested and are currently in judicial custody.

In another case related to the Primary Teachers Recruitment Scam in West Bengal, ED has already attached properties worth Rs 135 crore. The total attachment and seizure in teacher recruitment scams in West Bengal now amounts to Rs 365.60 crore.
