Mumbai: NCP leader and Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik has been taken by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials for a medical examination from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office. Nawab Malik has been remanded in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate till March 3 in connection with the Dawood Ibrahim Money Laundering Case. The Enforcement Directorate is continuously taking action in the money laundering case. On Thursday, the agency had also summoned Nawab Malik's brother Kaptan Malik for questioning in the case. On Wednesday, after eight hours of questioning, the agency arrested Nawab Malik.
Nawab Malik was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate for having a financial relationship with Hasina Parkar, the sister of underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim, and for promoting a money-laundering racket. The arrests of Nawab Malik are in connection with the Enforcement Directorate's money-laundering probe into the alleged hawala network of Dawood Ibrahim and his associates for promoting anti-national activities and spreading terrorism in India.
Earlier this month, the Enforcement Directorate had registered a case against fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim for terror activities in India on the basis of the NIA's case. Several properties of Dawood's associates were also raided. Three months before Malik's arrest, BJP leader and former chief minister Fadnavis had alleged that he had purchased land from two persons belonging to the underworld in Mumbai's Kurla. To this, Malik had denied all the allegations and replied that the purchases were legal. The Enforcement Directorate had also cited details of the transaction in the court seeking Malik's custody.
